Richard M. Hopgood is a member of the Firm's Real Estate & Construction Service Team. He concentrates his practice in representing retailers, developers, landlords and tenants in commercial real estate with an emphasis on retail and office developments. Mr. Hopgood also has extensive experience in oil and gas acquisition, financing and development.

Representative Matters

Mr. Hopgood's real estate experience includes work on behalf of national retailers who have constructed, and now operate, over 25,000,000 square feet of retail development in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana.

Mr. Hopgood has significant experience in negotiating and litigating eminent domain actions and advising clients on land use matters. Mr. Hopgood has also represented oil and gas exploration and development companies in leasing, acquisition, operation of financing of undeveloped and developed properties in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma. Mr. Hopgood was lead counsel on appeal in the case of State Street Bank & Trust v. Heck's, Inc., 973 S.W.2d 626 (Ky. 1998), which overturned existing precedent and established new decisional law regarding equitable mortgages.
